The EES is an automated IT system for registering travellers from non-EU countries each time they cross an EU external border. You will be registered in the EES if you are a non-EU national who:
- Requires a short-stay visa to enter European countries using the EES, or
- Does not require a visa for short stays in European countries using the EES
Every entry, exit, or refusal of entry will be recorded electronically in the system.
The system will register the person’s name, type of the travel document, biometric data (fingerprints and captured facial images) and the date and place of entry and exit, in full respect of fundamental rights and data protection.
